I-9 employment verification

Can a remote employee use an authorized representative for Form I-9?

An employer may designate an authorized representative to complete Form I-9 on its behalf. The employer provides the instructions and remains responsible for its Form I-9 process and compliance.

Is Form I-9 notarized?

No. Form I-9 is not notarized as part of the authorized-representative workflow. A notary serving as an employer-designated representative acts for the employer, not as a notary.

Appointments

Can you choose the notarial act for me?

No. A notary cannot give legal advice or decide which notarial act your document needs. Ask the document recipient or a qualified attorney when the instructions are unclear.

What should I bring to a notary appointment?

Bring the complete document and current acceptable identification for each signer. Keep signatures that require notarization unsigned until the appointment. Confirm any witness requirements in advance.

Apostille assistance

Do I need notarization before apostille processing?

It may be required, depending on the document type and receiving instructions. Notarization and apostille processing are separate steps; the issuing authority decides eligibility.

Does Signature Line Services issue apostilles?

No. Signature Line Services provides private preparation and coordination assistance. Michigan's Office of the Great Seal is the issuing authority for Michigan apostilles and document authentication.
